Martin Luther King Jr. Society
We, as students of Saint Michael’s College, in collaboration with the Center for Student Diversity, Empowerment, and Community, establish an organization to academically and socially support our peers by providing educational opportunities that emphasize social justice in regards to race.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Society annually plans and hosts the MLK Jr. Day Celebration, an observance and commemoration event that includes speakers, film, poetry and panel discussions to promote better understanding of issues of bias, prejudice and racism. The MLK Jr. Society also hosts local barber shops specializing in natural hair styles, along with BIPOC business owners in a campus-central marketplace event.
The group meets in Alliot 223 (the DEC Conference Room). Meeting dates and times will be determined at the beginning of each semester.
